Description

In a circular economy materials are kept in use for as long as possible, reducing the need for new resources and minimising environmental impacts from extraction to disposal. This approach not only benefits the environment but also has a positive economic impact.

We explore how sticking to the linear ‘take-make-waste’ economy could threaten future growth whereas a circular economy could support it whilst helping us cut emissions to meet climate goals. It could help reduce the UK’s dependence on volatile global supply chains, including for the critical minerals we need to achieve energy security. Circular activities are already delivering for the UK economy, but increased repair, remanufacturing, reuse, and recycling could generate even more new high quality jobs where they’re needed across the UK.

In this visual report, we outline five reasons why a circular economy is good for the economy, and propose three actions for the government to deliver these benefits.
