We all cross the line together or none of us cross it at all!
The triple planetary crisis of climate change, pollution and loss of biodiversity is threat to the survival of us all. We must collaborate, communicate, act and inspire like never before.
Healthcare professionals, with their trusted voices have a special role to play but delivering these messages is emotional and stressful.
CPDmatch has been built to help so please, reach out if you have ideas, comments or just want to talk.

Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is a continuing learning process, outside of formal undergraduate and postgraduate training that helps healthcare professionals maintain and improve their skills and performance to practice safely. It covers the development of knowledge, skills, attitudes and behaviours across all areas of professional practice. It includes both formal and informal learning activities.
Because of the inextricable link between planetary and human health, it is essential CPD undertaken by healthcare professionals includes education relating to the triple planetary crisis, the impacts this has upon human health and healthcare systems and how we can manage these demands, mitigate, adapt and communicate.
“The rate of extinction is tens to hundreds of times higher than the average over the past 10 million years. It suggests that a sixth mass extinction may be underway.”
This is not a tabloid headline, but a statement from Global biodiversity loss, ecosystem collapse and national security, published by the UK Government on 20 January 2026. In simple terms, biodiversity loss and ecosystem collapse represent a direct and escalating threat to UK national security, economic stability, food systems and public health. The global consequences are interconnected and could outpace our ability to respond if not urgently addressed.
Health is a fundamental human right, recognised in the Constitution of the World Health Organization (1948), the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (1948), and numerous international treaties. Healthcare therefore has a dual responsibility: to prevent and treat disease effectively, and to minimise its own environmental impact, including greenhouse gas emissions and physical and chemical waste. Good health is not only an outcome but a prerequisite—enabling societies to mitigate, adapt to, and respond to the climate and environmental emergency.
The COVID-19 pandemic, driven by a single pathogen, exposed the fragility of healthcare systems worldwide. Evidence from initiatives such as the Lancet Countdown suggests that the health impacts of climate change will be far greater in scale and complexity.
Despite decades of evidence on the harms of fossil fuel use and environmental degradation, progress has been insufficient. Atmospheric carbon dioxide levels are now higher than at any point in the past three million years, global warming is accelerating, and seven of the nine planetary boundaries have been crossed. As United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has starkly warned, “humanity has opened the gates to hell”.
Human health is inextricably linked to the state of the natural world. On our current trajectory, millions face increased risks of illness and death from extreme heat, severe weather, infectious diseases, and food insecurity. Healthcare systems themselves will come under growing strain as demand rises. As seen during the COVID-19 pandemic, the trusted voice of healthcare professionals is critical in catalysing public understanding and global action.
There is therefore an urgent need for those working across the healthcare value chain to be climate and environmentally literate, and confident in communicating these issues. While many recognise this responsibility, lack of knowledge remains a significant barrier. CPDmatch seeks to address this gap, through curating relevant and accessible education for all who work in the global healthcare industry.
No. It would neither be possible nor appropriate to just undertake accredited CPD. For example, the most up-to-date healthcare education can often be found in peer-reviewed journals and yet the articles themselves are not accredited by the process utilised for courses and conferences.
What is most important is that the CPD you undertake is relevant, recorded and reflected upon.
CPDmatch helps healthcare professionals, employing organisations and supplier industries find the education required to deliver net zero sustainable healthcare and become confident in communicating and inspiring others to tackle the triple planetary crisis of climate change, pollution and biodiversity loss.
The education found on CPDmatch equips individuals with the knowledge to keep themselves and their families physically and mentally healthy. Additionally, CPDmatch aids healthcare professionals to develop professionally as leaders, educators and communicators whilst increasing awareness of global challenges. We extend the ethos of first, do no harm from the individual patient to the planet and all those impacted by our actions.
CPDmatch includes education relating to innovation and that which helps all businesses in the healthcare value chain remain environmentally, socially and financially sustainable. Recognising the challenges faced by the Global South, the CPDmatch team prioritises the listing of free and virtual education to ensure maximum accessibility.
Registered users receive notifications from CPDmatch when new education is listed which matches their areas of interest (their saved search). That's the match in CPDmatch.
Anyone can use CPDmatch for free to find education although registering gives you access to features which we can only provide if you have an account. Registration is also free and enables you to bookmark favourite education and, through telling us what you're interested in and receive notifications when new education is listed. You can choose between daily and weekly 'saved search' notification or turn them off completely. Apart from these automated educational notifications, we rarely send other communications.

Once registered, you can also explore The Climate Path and join if you wish to work toward certification. Please do not use the downloadable registration form unless you also have education to list.
For organisations who wish to list education or take out a subscription to The Climate Path, click the Register button on the CPDmatch homepage followed by Register as an Organisation. Please complete the form taking note of the mandatory fields. The subjects you select should reflect your organisation's education and we do use them for matching so please select carefully and sparingly. Once the form is submitted, we will undertake due diligence to ensure your organisational ethos aligns with our own and if it does, approve your account.
Most site visitors will land on the CPDmatch homepage where you will see a search bar and 12 'category' buttons. The search bar searches the titles of all education on CPDmatch so if you have a topic in mind just enter some keywords and you'll see the results appear. There is no need to press the 'enter' button, just type and wait one second.
The 12 categories shown are what we call 'top level' and this is how we group education so it can be easily found. When you click on these buttons, the education shown below changes to the most recent which has been listed in that category. We call the education rectangles 'tiles' and there are several actions you can take at this point:
- Click the bookmark tab on the top right of the tile to save the education in your favourites for reading later. You can access your favourites by clicking the circle in the top right of the page and selecting favourite education from the drop-down menu.
- Click view details to see the description of the education along with details of the education provider. Clicking on the education provider logo takes you to their dedicated page which shows all their education listed on CPDmatch.
- Click read now which will take you straight to the webpage of the education provider.
Scrolling down the homepage further, you'll see some stats regarding the education listed. These are also shortcuts to:
- The Find climate and environmental education page where you will find all the education listed on CPDmatch.
- The Provicer directory which shows which organisations have education listed on CPDmatch.
- The education listed which is free to undertake.
- Virtual education on-demand which is available to undertake now from your computer or mobile device.
After selecting free or on-demand education, you can then apply subject filters on the next page to narrow down your search:
- Click the downward arrows on the right to see the next level categories so you can really focus your search.
- On-site education defaults to global but you can change to focus on a single country.
- You can select to just show education which is free to undertake.
- Move the date slider into the future if you have any restrictions on when you can attend scheduled events (e.g., you must give notice for study leave).
- You can sort education by featured, soonest (to occur) or newest (listed on CPDmatch).
If you have registered as a user on CPDmatch, you will then see an option to View your search search. This enables you to change your subjects of interest which is what we use to match you with education - that's the match in CPDmatch.
We do have one favour to ask at this point and that is - if you come across education you think should be on CPDmatch, copy the website address (URL) and send it to us using the Submit URL function you'll find on the homepage. We can then get it listed for others to find.
Thank you and if you have questions, comments or problem, please contact us.
