Environmental Sustainability in Care Homes

Environmental sustainability is a new requirement place upon social care providers by the Single Assessment Framework. The CQC say that this quality statement will not be reviewed at the first assessment under the new framework. Nevertheless, social care provider must embrace environmental sustainability and embed it into their governance systems now. This is also a requirement under many local authority contracts in the social value section of the service specification. Environmental sustainability is more than recycling waste although that is a vital element. It requires a review of all of the service processes to lessen the impact on the environment and taking steps to reduce this.
