TNFD 2026 Status Report
Last updated September 2026
Description
Three years after the publication of the TNFD recommendations, the TNFD 2026 Status Report shows that nature-related considerations are becoming embedded in business and financial decision-making. More than 1,000 organisations across 56 countries or areas have published some level of disclosure aligned with the TNFD recommendations, representing a 100% increase compared with a year earlier.
This year’s report draws on the views of more than 500 market participants surveyed over July and August 2026, as well as AI-enabled analysis of corporate reporting triangulated with data and analysis from leading market data service providers.
Key findings from the 2026 Status Report
- Over 1,000 organisations across 56 countries or areas have published first-, second- or third-generation TNFD-aligned reports, a 100% increase in the number identified in 2025.
- Average disclosure per organisation declined slightly but remained above 8 out of the 14 TNFD recommended disclosures. The volume of disclosure increases with each successive year of TNFD-aligned reporting.
- 802 organisations have committed to making disclosures aligned with the TNFD recommendations. Among them are financial institutions representing USD 26.6 trillion in AUM.
- 100% of investors surveyed expressed concern about the effects of nature loss on financial markets and 59% ranked nature among their organisation’s three most important sustainability topics.
- More than 70% of survey respondents support greater certainty through mandatory nature-related reporting requirements, with a preference for standards to be introduced in the next one to three years.
- 76% of respondents have conducted or are currently undertaking a LEAP assessment, signalling growing maturity in nature-related assessment practices.
- 56% of investors are already exploring or deploying capital into nature-related investment opportunities and 74% expect a significant 2x-5x increase in financing of nature-related opportunities in the next five years.
- 74% of investors believe cross-sector metrics are important alongside sector-specific metrics.
- The TNFD’s 14 recommended metrics covering dependencies, impacts, risks and opportunities are seen as decision-useful by investors and broadly feasible to report by report preparers, with the exception of pollution-related metrics.
- Approximately 50% of survey respondents reported only limited prior engagement with the TNFD, suggesting a broader read on market sentiment than just those already advanced on nature-related assessment and reporting.
