Spotlight 2024

This year, Synchronicity Earth turned fifteen. In some ways, counting years feels like an arbitrary act, but for us, it feels like a significant milestone.

For one, we are still here and we are going strong – with great thanks to our long-term and growing roster of supporters, peers, and dedicated team.

And, with each day we are more assured that we are adding value to the environmental sector, making a real positive, tangible difference for our exceptional partners across the globe, and as a result, all of the natural world.

When we launched, we wanted to actively contribute to changing the percentage of philanthropic funding going to the environment – less than 3% simply wasn’t good enough.

That number is growing incrementally: many more people, foundations, trusts, and corporations seem to care about the environment and are acting on their concerns.

We are also heartened that this growing movement of funders are thinking beyond the quantity, to the quality of funding.

This is a lesson we have learned on our journey as well, as we have listened to our conservation partners about how important core and flexible funding is, how we can support them beyond funding, and hold our relationships at the heart of what we do.

We are really proud that our partners in the field seem to enjoy working with us as much as we love working with and learning from them.

We have built a solid reputation and created an effective organisation, and that is immense!

But the need and urgency to protect and restore nature is now many times greater than it was when we started, especially in the current global social and political climate.

The rate and pace of good funding is having a hard time keeping up with the need. We all have to raise our game.

Fifteen years ago, we made a conscious decision to go ‘all in’ on the environment.

Now that the stakes are higher than they’ve ever been, it’s not time to fold, it’s time to double down.
