Description

The Special Report on Social Participation in Health and Climate highlights that addressing climate change is a commitment to life, with health at the center of its impacts and solutions. In the context of COP30, Brazil calls for a global collective effort inspired by the indigenous concept of “mutirão” (“Motirõ”), reinforcing cooperation to face shared challenges. Produced by the Brazilian Association of Collective Health (ABRASCO) with support from the Ministry of Health of Brazil, the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), the report offers guidance to strengthen governance on climate and health through social participation, contributing to the implementation of the Belém Health Action Plan (BHAP) with an emphasis on equity and climate justice. It reaffirms Brazil’s role in promoting integrated public policies, democratic dialogue, and local knowledge, while stressing the need for strong mechanisms of consultation, transparency, financing, and participation so that communities most affected by inequalities and climate impacts can lead solutions toward resilient, sustainable, and equitable health systems.
