Sustainable Geriatric Medicine
Description
We will also be joined by Peter May who will give the perspective on how the national Greener NHS team are helping to decarbonise the NHS.
We know that older people are particularly at risk of the health impacts of climate breakdown. However, healthcare itself accounts for more than 4% of the UK carbon footprint. We will explore where the biggest environmental impacts of geriatric medicine come from. We will then discuss how we can adapt our services to provide high quality, low-carbon care for older people.
Speakers:
- Peter May: Senior Net Zero Delivery Manager, Greener NHS National Programme
- Florence Wedmore: Co-chair BGS Sustainability Working Group; ST5 Geriatric Medicine Registrar, London; former Chief Sustainability Officer's Clinical Fellow
- Moderator: Prof Rowan Harwood, Co-chair BGS Sustainability working group, Professor of Palliative and End-of-life care in the University of Nottingham, and recently retired Consultant Geriatrician.
We welcome questions from the audience and will have time to answer some of these in the final part of the webinar.
