Scan It, Map It, Study It: A New Way to See Exposure
Description
People are exposed to chemicals and materials through the products they use every day, but understanding those exposures is difficult. Product information is fragmented, labels can be incomplete or hard to interpret, and traditional exposure questionnaires often depend on what people can remember and report.
Clearya has developed tools that approach this problem from several directions. The Clearya consumer app helps people understand chemicals in products while they shop or use products at home. Clearya Survey allows research participants to capture the actual products they use using photos and videos, while Clearya Insights turns those captures into structured data that researchers can analyze across products, ingredients, chemicals of concern, and other attributes. Clearya is now extending this approach to plastics, including tools for identifying and screening plastic resins and work on microplastics and plastic material flows.
In this roundtable, Amit Rosner will demonstrate these tools and explore a broader question: could real-world product data also be useful to clinicians? The discussion will consider whether patient-collected product information could help make everyday exposures more visible, where it could support counseling or research, and what information clinicians would actually need for it to be useful rather than overwhelming.
