Description
Orthopaedic Surgical Procedures – Virtual Reality (VR) Education by ExR Education is a free, immersive training resource designed to support learners in mastering essential orthopaedic skills and procedures. Harnessing the power of virtual reality, this innovative platform places users in a highly realistic surgical environment where they can explore anatomy, refine technique, and build confidence in orthopaedic practice—all without the constraints of time, resources, or patient risk.
Ideal for medical students, surgical trainees, and healthcare professionals, the VR modules cover a range of fundamental orthopaedic procedures. These include joint examination, fracture assessment, open and closed reduction techniques, screw and plate fixation, and more. Each module offers detailed step-by-step instruction, guided learning pathways, and interactive environments that promote active engagement and procedural understanding.
The platform is designed to be used flexibly—whether in a classroom, skills lab, or independently at home. With only a compatible VR headset required, learners can revisit procedures repeatedly to consolidate knowledge, develop spatial awareness, and improve hand-eye coordination. This repeatability and hands-on approach provide a valuable supplement to traditional training methods, which are often limited by patient availability and clinical placement constraints.
Created in collaboration with orthopaedic surgeons and medical educators, ExR Education ensures that the content is clinically accurate, pedagogically sound, and aligned with current training standards. The aim is not only to teach technical skills but to support critical thinking, procedural sequencing, and confidence in surgical settings.
As with all ExR Education content, this VR learning resource is completely free, supporting equitable access to high-quality medical education. It offers a novel, engaging way to support Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and complements in-person training by preparing learners for real-world clinical practice.
Whether preparing for surgical rotations, assessments, or simply reinforcing core orthopaedic concepts, Orthopaedic Surgical Procedures – VR Education delivers an accessible, high-impact learning experience that helps close the gap between textbook knowledge and hands-on surgical skills.
