Description

A session at our recent AI in the NHS summit brought together colleagues from health systems in Norway, Spain, Estonia and England to share learning about how different countries are approaching the deployment of AI in health care.

Although the four countries and their respective health systems vary considerably, all are grappling with similar challenges when it comes to using AI. These include how best to regulate AI, implementing and scaling its adoption, developing the workforce, and bringing patients and the public with you.

Tim Horton, from the Health Foundation, chaired a panel involving:

  • Alec Price-Forbes, National Chief Clinical Information Officer for NHS England
  • Hilde Lovett, Senior Advisor at the Norwegian Directorate of Health
  • Joan Guanyabens, Director of the TIC Salut i Social Foundation (the body overseeing digital transformation in the Catalan Health Service)
  • Karl-Henrik Peterson, Interim Chief Executive of the Estonian Health Insurance Fund

Some clear themes emerged through the discussion, which we explore further below.
