Description

Lifestyle medicine is a medical speciality focused on using therapeutic lifestyle interventions as the primary approach to treat and often reverse chronic conditions such as cardiovascular diseases, type 2 diabetes, and obesity. Certified lifestyle medicine clinicians are trained to implement evidence-based, whole-person strategies that emphasise prescriptive lifestyle changes. By applying the six pillars of lifestyle medicine—a whole-food, plant-predominant diet, regular physical activity, restorative sleep, stress management, avoidance of risky substances, and positive social connections—clinicians not only treat but also effectively prevent these conditions.

To become an IBLM Diplomate, lifestyle medicine physicians and professionals must:

  • Complete at least 30 hours of specific lifestyle medicine online CME from an approved course
  • Accumulate a minimum of 20 hours of event CME through approved in-person or online events
  • (Physicians only) Submit a case study which highlights your personal experience with lifestyle medicine, demonstrating your ability to apply learned principles in practical, real-world scenarios (may include a self-case)
  • Pass the certification exam
