Description

The Ocean Decade aims to transform the way that ocean science and knowledge is generated and used, and thus precipitate a shift from the ocean we have to the ocean we want by 2030.

The Vision 2030 process, implemented over a twelve-month period leading up to the 2024 Ocean Decade Conference, was centered around the ten Ocean Decade Challenges, which represent the most immediate and pressing needs for ocean knowledge. Through this process, a tailored and specific end goal and associated milestones were established for each of these Challenges, ensuring the Decade’s ongoing relevance and success.

To meet the strategic ambition of the Ocean Decade Challenges, the ‘Ambition, Action, Impact’ report outlines high-level priorities for ocean science, knowledge, capacity, resources, and infrastructure, as well as enabling conditions that must be established or strengthened in the coming years. These objectives will be at the heart of the Ocean Decade’s engagement at the 2025 United Nations Ocean Conference in Nice, France, and pre-Conference Special Events, ensuring that all activities align with the strategic priorities outlined in the report.
