Strengthening climate resilience in Poland: the role of the health sector
Description
Poland faces some of the most acute climate-health risks in the European Union: Heat-related deaths more than doubled in the past decade and heatwaves worsen already poor air quality. Allergy seasons are starting earlier, and the climatic suitability for mosquitos, ticks and other vectors transmitting Lyme disease, West Nile virus is increasing.
The health risks and impacts of climate change are growing, and require a swift and decisive policy response. Doctors, public health experts and health professionals in Poland have been increasingly vocal, including in the Doctors for climate initiative.
Join the webinar which brings together policymakers, health sector representatives, scientists and civil society for:
- An exclusive presentation of new evidence on the health risks and impacts of climate change in Poland from the 2026 Lancet Countdown Europe.
- Insights from a CATALYSE case study focused on how health has shaped the policy response to climate change in Poland.
- A policy Roundtable discussion on measures needed to strengthen health and climate resilience, also in the National Health Programme.
