Maximising Accessibility & Inclusivity in Public Spaces
Description
This CPD explores how thoughtful street furniture design can enhance accessibility and promote inclusivity in the public realm. Aimed at landscape architects, architects, contractors, site managers and owners, the session provides practical guidance on how to specify products that meet the needs of all users—particularly those living with disabilities.
Attendees will gain a clear understanding of what defines disability, the relevance of the Equality Act 2010, and how this legislation directly impacts the design and specification of street furniture.
The session addresses key considerations such as spacing, positioning, materials, and dimensions, as well as the importance of wayfinding and inclusive signage. By the end of the session, participants will have a solid foundation to apply inclusive design principles in future projects—ensuring public spaces are welcoming and usable for all.
