Healthcare Waste Management and Disposal
Supporting Primary Care staff to reduce waste volumes and implement sustainable waste management practices.
Description
In the advent of COVID-19, along with NHS Net Zero objectives and pressures within the disposal industry, healthcare waste management is entering an important phase of transition across England.
With greater emphasis being placed on compliance with regulations and reducing environmental impact, it is important to increase your awareness and management of all waste types.
The Healthcare Waste Management and Disposal elearning programme supports healthcare staff to:
- explain the need for effective segregation to prevent the mixing of waste types
- distinguish between the containment types and colour coding, depending on the waste type generated
- reduce complexity in operational and administrative processes surrounding waste management
- achieve the aim of implementing sustainable procurement, and reducing waste volumes by 15%, by 2030
- understand how the waste hierarchy ranks waste management options according to what is best for the environment.
