Description
Strengthening water resilience in the EU is a report developed by Economist Impact, supported by DuPont Water Solutions. It draws from the conceptual design and framework of the 2021 City Water Index.
Water availability was once outside the realm of typical European concerns, but it is now top of mind for policymakers and key water actors across the European Union (EU). While member states like Spain, Italy and Portugal are experiencing prolonged drought conditions, Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands have witnessed high levels of precipitation and devastating floods. In light of the ongoing discussions surrounding an EU-wide water strategy, Economist Impact, through this report, will first highlight gaps in existing EU policy and anticipated priorities for the upcoming initiative. It will then demonstrate how the City Water Index can be used as a tool to aid the design and implementation of localised solutions across different EU member states.
