Creating the healthiest generation of children: turning prevention, early intervention and children’s wellbeing into reality

Staying healthy and caring at home | Clinical impacts and solutions

Children in England face some of the poorest health outcomes in Europe, with widening inequalities and growing concern about the long-term impact. This conference will explore the government’s ambition to create the ‘healthiest generation of children in our history’ through its Opportunity and Health missions. What will it take – nationally, regionally and locally – to make this vision a reality over the next decade?

Description

As children’s health services face increasing deprioritisation and underfunding, we’ll examine the structural changes needed to ensure that shifts towards neighbourhood-based, digital and preventive care truly deliver for children and young people. Recognising children as a distinct population health group, the event will highlight the importance of early intervention and integrated services.

Sessions will explore how the 10 Year Health Plan must embed prevention to improve childhood health and reduce future system pressures. With clear evidence that the most effective window for intervention begins in pregnancy, this event will move beyond theory to action, sharing practical examples of what works.

Achieving this vision will require collaboration across health, education, social care, justice, housing and the voluntary sector. Together, we can ensure every child grows up healthy, supported and ready to thrive.
