Curbing plastic pollution in healthcare: Join the training on reusable medical textiles
Published 18 November 2025
Description
Plastic waste in the healthcare sector is a growing concern. Medical textiles, often made from plastics, account for up to 10% of a hospital’s plastic waste, including personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gowns, aprons, face masks, and sterilisation materials. These items are typically made from non-woven polypropylene, a material that is difficult to recycle and contributes significantly to environmental pollution throughout its lifecycle.
The Reusable Textiles Revolution project was launched to tackle this challenge by promoting sustainable textile alternatives across Latin America, Southeast Asia, and Europe.
