This report examines global exposure to air pollution and its effects on human health, presenting data covering 1990–2023 across more than 200 countries, territories and regions. It assesses outdoor and household air pollution, including fine particulate matter (PM₂.₅), nitrogen dioxide and ozone, and their contributions to disease and premature mortality.

The report estimates that air pollution contributed to 7.9 million deaths worldwide in 2023, including 6.8 million deaths from noncommunicable diseases. It examines associations with cardiovascular and respiratory diseases, diabetes, lung cancer and dementia, while highlighting inequalities in exposure and health outcomes, particularly in low- and middle-income countries.

Accompanying interactive resources enable users to explore geographical differences, historical trends and disease burdens, providing evidence to inform public health, environmental policy and air pollution reduction strategies.

Access requirements: Free, publicly accessible report. No registration, login or payment required. The full report is available as a downloadable PDF, alongside an infographic and interactive data visualisation tools.
