Heat Safety Week Workshop
Description
Join the Alliance for Heat Resilience and Health for a Heat Safety Week Workshop. This session will highlight opportunities to engage in the national Heat Safety Week (May 18–22, 2026) and equip participants with a practical action toolkit—including social media resources and advocacy templates—to help drive state-level engagement and action on extreme heat.
We will hear from:
- Lauren Balotin from NIHHIS will talk to us about National Heat Safety Week and how you can join a social media campaign to raise awareness.
- Melissa Griffin from the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources will talk to us about state-level responses to extreme heat.
- Vaishnavi Tripuraneni will talk about how to get a local proclamation on extreme heat that can mobilize awareness, resources, and political will.
- Natalie Rubio, a middle school student in Sacramento, California, who developed the idea that led to AB 1653, will talk about her experiences with extreme heat in school that prompted her to seek a legislative solution.
After we hear from these 4 amazing speakers, we'll move to the workshop portion, where we'll give people space and community to brainstorm what actions they can take on a local and state level.
