IV Forum Antimicrobial Stewardship Series

The objective of this B. Braun webinar is to share knowledge and raise awareness about IV antibiotic under-delivery, an often-overlooked issue that occurs when residual volume remains trapped in the line of the administration set after the IV antibiotic bag empties. This can result in an under-delivery of between 40% (50 ml bag) and 20% (100 ml bag), potentially compromising therapeutic efficacy.

The session will examine how and why IV antibiotic under-delivery occurs, review relevant guidelines on administration set line flushing, discuss its importance within antimicrobial stewardship programmes, and showcase a real-world case study of how one organisation is working to overcome this challenge using B. Braun’s DoseTrac® infusion management software technology to identify the issue in near real time.

The primary focus of this webinar will be to:

• Examine how suboptimal or under-delivered dosing may impact patient outcomes, in the context of key pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic (PK/PD) principles such as minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and time above MIC.
