Description
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a growing global health crisis, and its links to environmental pollution remain largely overlooked. HCWH Europe is launching the report Tackling AMR in the Environment: How the EU Can Lead the Way to highlight the environmental dimensions of AMR and advocate for stronger policies addressing this urgent issue.
This report examines the role of wastewater, pharmaceutical pollution, and animal farming practices in spreading resistant bacteria and outlines specific recommendations to strengthen the European One Health Action Plan against AMR. It calls for stricter regulations on antibiotic discharge, improved monitoring of environmental hotspots, and greater transparency in pharmaceutical manufacturing. The report also emphasises the need for collaboration across sectors, bringing together policymakers, healthcare professionals, researchers, and industry leaders to develop sustainable solutions that protect both human and environmental health.
