Salud Por Derecho

We are a non-profit foundation that defends human rights so that all people, wherever they live, can exercise their right to health. We are not affiliated with any institutions, religious beliefs, or political ideologies. We are supported by members, private donors, and foundations.

In 2003, a group of activists decided to organize ourselves to get Spain and the rest of the world to stop looking the other way in the fight against AIDS in impoverished countries; the most affected.

Today, at Health as a Right, we create campaigns, produce reports, and engage in political advocacy to defend the right to health from the perspective of social justice and inequality. We work to ensure that:

• Research into medicines and vaccines should be defined according to the health needs of the world's population and not by market interests.
• Prices for drugs and vaccines should be fair and set transparently; and knowledge should be open and shared.
• Public investment should be made responsibly, and all research using public funds should include conditions that ensure its return to society.
• Patents should not be the only incentive or the fundamental element on which the drug research and development system is based.

From our headquarters in Madrid, we work on these issues at a national, European, and global level.
